ON THE MARKET

There are some seriously beautiful homes for sale in Southern New Brunswick this summer – see below an elegant brownstone in uptown Saint John begging for the Brooklyn treatment, an oceanside cape cod seeking lovingly cared-for antiques and a stately Victorian in downtown Fredericton with gardens to die for.

While by New Brunswick real estate standards these homes are considered pricey, in large metropolitan areas these babies would be going for sky-high prices. Aren’t we the lucky ones.

Join me for a photographic tour and please, do enjoy my excellent headers.

What fun!

Uptown Lady

Let’s start with this beauty. Real estate in New Brunswick boggles my mind in the best way. I’ve read so many Architectural Digest profiles in the past few years featuring newly renovated brownstones in Brooklyn that look exactly like this one, some less lovely and with much less space. If Jake and I were looking to buy and had the $$ we would no doubt be taking a good hard look at this gracious lady.

An international steal but locally overpriced manse, she hit the market at $495,000.

This Dutch is a do

There are a lot of pretty houses in Rothesay but this classic Dutch Colonial has always been a favourite of mine. The way it’s situated on Rothesay Road is a bonus, it doesn’t face the road but another lovely house a few hundred yards away. It’s especially gorge at Christmas with wreaths and red bows and a fresh snow dusting the earth white. Yes, I just went there in the middle of July. Couldn’t be helped.

A Cape on the Ocean

As we New Brunswicker’s like to say, “It’s just like Maine!”. Maybe someday we’ll stop comparing. But riddle me this, could you purchase this home and 3.6 acres of sprawling green (that leads down to the ocean no less), for the equivalent of $645,000 USD? I dare say no, you most likely cannot.

Fit for a Queen in Fredericton

I took notice of this Queen Ann style house in downtown Fredericton a few summers ago – it has a story-book garden gate covered in a climber of some sort that blossoms heartily in June. It's obvious this home has been meticulously maintained inside and out and looks like a cosy family space with lots of places to curl up.
